(Picture: Lily Heaume) These are penises that Lily knows very well. Lily was inspired to start 10 Portraits when she received a ‘bullsh*t text’ from a guy she had slept with. In her studio at the time, she decided to take her anger out on her firing clay, moulding a very detailed penis out of it before writing ‘liar’ across the clay shaft. And that’s when Lily had her lightbulb moment. She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I thought I might as well make one for everyone because I don’t really see them as overly positive experiences. ‘I’m not really in contact with most of them, one person didn’t like the idea and someone else said it was cringey – to be fair I’m not sure how I would feel if someone made a sculpture of me.’ Given her own misgivings, Lily decided to see how other people felt about it. She said: ‘I kind of continued it in the dating app Tinder – I put the ceramics on my profile and swiped yes to everyone to see the reactions. Lots of people (men mostly) mistook it for trophy-ism and loads of people said ‘lol ur going to need more clay.” When her project was done, Lily sold all the penises at her end of year art show. ‘I didn’t realise they would be so popular,’ she said. Future love-interests need not worry, Lily says. She has vowed that 10 Portraits will also be her last portrait. Well, of penises, anyway.
